Former KNAC.COM DJ Lands New Job At Texas Radio Station 104 THE BEAR
September 20, 2006Radio personality Vicki Vox — best known as "The Rack" during her four years as a DJ on KNAC.COM — was recently hired by Wichita Falls, Texas-based Cumulus Broadcasting for their station 104 The Bear, with her first official on-air date set for October 2. This follows her much-publicized split from rival station The Buzz two weeks ago where she was a regular DJ since 2002.
Originally from Long Island, New York, Vicki first got her start in radio broadcasting in the mid-'90s on San Bernadino, California campus radio before she was hired by then-radio programmer Long Paul to intern on KNAC.COM following the resurgence of the popular heavy metal radio station on the Internet in mid-1998. For the next four years as her on-air DJ persona "The Rack" — a nickname she maintains was due to her pool-playing skills — she hosted an hour-long weekly specialty program known as "Back In The Day" that specialized in classic hard rock/heavy metal songs during her regular program and developed a cult following among many listeners (and was featured in an article in Spin magazine in 2000 about Internet radio) not just for her musical tastes and programming but also for her vivacious and energetic personality on the air. During her time with KNAC.COM, she interviewed a number of big-name hard rock and heavy metal musicians, including Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OZZY OSBOURNE),Jeff Waters (ANNIHILATOR),Dave Mustaine (MEGADETH),Lars Ulrich (METALLICA),David Coverdale (WHITESNAKE),and Geddy Lee (RUSH).
In 2002 she moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and was hired by local radio station the Buzz where her active and unrelenting support of the live music scene in that city helped bring in several big name tours such as Ozzfest over the past four years. She is also said to have been one of the station's most popular DJ's during her stint there.
